Our reference management software Docear has not been actively developed for a few years, and recently, the add-on to fetch metadata from Google Scholar stopped working.
Fortunately, one of our users (Li Yang) adjusted Docear’s Google Scholar Parser, and now everything works as usual. However, we have not yet integrated the function into […]
October 5th, 2017 by Joeran [Docear] Google Scholar recently changed its layout, and as a consequence, Docear couldn’t fetch metadata anymore from Google Scholar for PDF files. Fortunately, one of our users (“Silberzwiebel”) adjusted Docear’s Google Scholar Parser, and now everything works as usual. However, we have not yet integrated the function into the main version of Docear. This means, even […]
July 22nd, 2014 by Joeran [Docear] Compared to several other reference managers, Docear lacks a feature to directly import references from the Web. For instance, if you visit the detail page of a research article on a publisher’s website, you might wish to directly import the bibliographic data of that article to Docear. Many publishers offer export options for reference managers […]

The […]
March 27th, 2014 by Joeran [Docear] Thanks to all the generous donors, our student Christoph could work on an improved PDF metadata retrieval for Docear, and today it’s time to present the first preview. The new Docear 1.1 (preview) is able to extract the title of a PDF and fetch appropriate metadata from Google Scholar. Whenever you select a PDF in […]
March 12th, 2013 by Joeran [Docear] We are experiencing a very high server load due to several reasons (many people are using our services, we are doing some extensive research analyses, etc.). Therefore we decided to deactivate the metadata retrieval and recommendations for a while, hopefully only a few days. We will let you know as soon as the services are […]
January 25th, 2013 by Joeran [Docear] Just a quick notice: Since a while Docear can automatically retrieve bibliographic information for PDF files. So far, only 15 requests per day per users were possible. We increased this limit to 50. If you have not yet tried this feature, do it, it saves a lot of time!
[…]
November 21st, 2012 by Joeran [Docear] Beta 7 is out and has one major new feature: (semi-)automatic extraction of bibliographic metadata from PDF files. That means, when creating a new reference, you don’t have to type everything manually but bibliographic information such as title, author, year, journal, etc. is all provided to you automatically. Here is how it works: Do a […]
